IDLH environments pose immediate threats from oxygen deficiency, toxic gases, chemical vapors, smoke, or other contaminants that could cause death, immediate irreversible health effects, or impair a worker's ability to escape. Firefighters, emergency responders, hazmat technicians, confined space rescue teams, and industrial workers will learn the three main components of SCBA systems: the high-pressure compressed air tank (typically 2,216 psi or 4,500 psi), the pressure regulator that reduces tank pressure to breathable levels and delivers air on demand, and the inhalation connection (full facepiece mask) that creates an airtight seal to deliver clean breathing air while preventing contaminated atmosphere from entering.
