Participants will learn proper installation, maintenance, and usage procedures for emergency equipment in chemical work environments. The course emphasizes regulatory compliance, emergency response protocols, and workplace safety programs to protect workers from chemical exposure hazards.
In 29 CFR 1910.151, OSHA states that they are required “where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.”.
Learners are taught that yes, if they can deliver the required water flow rate for 15 minutes or more.
In practical terms, they are expected to be tested weekly and inspected annually.
Eyewash stations need to dispense 0.4 gallons per minute and safety showers need to dispense 20 gallons per minute.
